The League of Nations established its headquarters in the heart of Geneva in 1920. Shaping the architecture of the city, the organisation was first installed in Palais Wilson, before moving to Palais des Nations in 1936. In the aftermath of the Second World War, the organisation was dissolved and replaced by the United Nations whose headquarters were based in New York. Geneva remains host to the main European office and headquarters of many UN agencies, giving UN in Geneva an important role to play in the future.
