Michael Møller inaugurates the University of Geneva brand-new Master in European and International Governance: The MEIG Programme
The Centre for European Legal Studies (CEJE) of the University of Geneva Law School and the Global Studies Institute (GSI) of the University of Geneva, in cooperation with the United Nations Office at Geneva jointly developed a multidisciplinary master, the Geneva Master in European and International Governance (MEIG Programme). Unique in its kind in Switzerland, the MEIG Programme is designed to provide top-level training to an international audience facing constant changes in international and European legislation, procedures and mechanisms which require careful consideration of both international and regional challenges. Therefore, the cooperation between the University of Geneva and UNOG contributes further to reinforcing the links with international organizations.
Taught entirely in English, the MEIG Programme allows participants to acquire the necessary skills to understand principles, rules and mechanisms underlying international and European governance; analyse European challenges within a global context; develop a forward-looking vision including societal and political challenges; and master means of communication and negotiation techniques tailored to different cultural, institutional and social contexts. Furthermore, the MEIG Programme is the perfect milieu to build up a network of European and international expertise. This master further offers to the participants the opportunity to visit Brussels and Geneva in order to discover European institutions and international organizations, and acquaint themselves with their functioning and challenges within a global context.
This master, which officially starts on 30th January, will be inaugurated by Mr. Michael Møller, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, at a conference entitled “Global Governance Challenges – What Role for the United Nations?” held on 20th February at 6:15 PM (Uni Mail, Room S150, in English). Mr. Møller will address most notably the lack of public confidence towards political leaders at all governance levels while underlining that the United Nations have a crucial role to play to make this world a better place.
